\text{ Number of pieces } = \frac{ \text{ Total Length } }{ \text{ Size to cut } }

5 \frac{1}{2} = \frac{5 \times 2 + 1}{2}

5 \frac{1}{2} = \frac{10+1}{2}

5 \frac{1}{2} = \frac{11}{2}

\text{ Total length } = 121 \text{m}

\text{ Size to cut } = \frac{11}{2} \text{m}

Number of pieces

= 121 \text{m} + \frac{11}{2} \text{m}

Reciprocate the fraction (numerator becomes denominator and denominator becomes numerator) at the right

and change the division (÷) to multiplication (x) sign.

Number of pieces

= 121 \times \frac{2}{11}

Note:

1. m cancels each other

2. 11 divides itself 1 and 121, 11 times

11 \times 2 = 22

Number of pieces

= 22
