Substitute the values into the equation.

\;R=\;\frac{h}{2}+\;\frac{d^2}{8h}

\;d=8\;\text{ and }\;h=6

\;R=\;\frac{6}{2}+\;\frac{8^2}{8\times 6}

\;8^2=8\times 8

\;R=\;\frac{6}{2}+\;\frac{8\times 8}{8\times 6}

2 divides itself once and 6, 3 times. 8 at the denominator cancels one of the 8 s at the numerator. 2 divides 8,4 times and 6, 3 times.

\;R=3+\;\frac{4}{3}

\;\frac{4}{3}=1\frac{1}{3}

\;R=3+1\frac{1}{3}

\;R=(3+1)\frac{1}{3}

\;R=4\frac{1}{3}
