Perimeter is the sum of each of the lengths of a shape.

Rectangle has two equal lengths and two equal widths.

Let

w=

width of the rectangle.

Perimeter

=2 \times 14\ \text{cm}+2 \times w

But perimeter

=48\ \text{cm}

\;48\ \text{cm}=28\ \text{cm}+2 w

\;48\ \text{cm}-28\ \text{cm}=2 w

\;20\ \text{cm}=2 w

Divide both sides of the equation by 2

w=\;\frac{20\ \text{cm}}{2}=10\ \text{cm}
