The area of a trapezium is

. If the parallel sides are 10.5 cm and 9.5 cm , calculate the distance between the two parallel sides.

Solution:

The area of trapezium could be calculated by the formula below

The distance between the two parallel sides is the height.

a=9.5\;\text{ and }\;b=10.5

The area,

A=36

\;9.5=9+0.5

\;10.5=10+0.5

\;9.5+10.5=9+10+0.5+0.5

\;0.5=\;\text{ half }\;

\;0.5+0.5=\;\text{ half }\;+\;\text{ half }\;=1

\;9.5+10.5=9+10+1=20

\;36=10 \times h

Divide both sides by 10

\;\frac{36}{10}=h

\;3.6=h
