Solution:

Using pythagoras formula:

Hyp $^2$ = adj $^2$ + opp $^2$

5 $^2$ = opp $^2$ + 3 $^2$

5 $^2$ - 3 $^2$ = adj $^2$

4 = adj

length of the chord = 2 * 4 = 8cm
