Transition elements are elements having partially filled d- orbitals. The first series of transition elements ranges from Scandium to Zinc.
Apart from the general properties of metals, the transition elements have in addition the following characteristics:
- Variable oxidation state
- Catalytic properties
- Magnetic properties.
- Complex ion formation
