In an experiment on soil porosity, the following results were obtained:

Volume of dry soil = 52cm³

Volume of water= 48cm³

Volume of soil and water=78cm³

Solution:

The expected total volume of soil and water = 52 $cm^3 + 48cm^3= 100cm^3$

Given total volume of soil and water = 78 $cm^3$

Difference in total volume = 100 $cm^3 - 78cm^3$ = 22 $cm^3$

So, this difference represents air space in the soil sample = 22 $cm^3$
