Solution:

Porosity of the soil sample = $\frac{\text{volume of air space in the soil}}{\text{volume of soil sample}}$ x 100

=

\frac{22\,\mathrm{cm}^3}{52\,\mathrm{cm}^3}

x 100 =

= 42.31 %
